You don’t need me to tell you that starting a profitable business online is not as easy as they always make out. First you have to pick the right product to promote, then you have to create websites, then you have to work out how to get traffic… the list goes on and on.

The quick start overview section is the next tab as you move across the training screen.

This section is basically a condensed bite-size version of the main course. In this section, Gabor gives you a step-by-step action plan which covers everything from getting in the right mindset and managing your time … right through to creating your first info product and driving traffic.

If you’re a beginner, or you’re new to the information product creation world, then you may find some of the information on the quick start guide a little too brief. This is really designed to give you an overview and a feel for what’s ahead. This section includes useful diagrams, and the theory itself is solid.

Even though it may seem a little brief for some people, the truth is that this section alone could be sold as an entire course by itself. Essentially, you have everything you need to start and run your information product business within the quick start guide …

Gabor covers the general overview , including a diagram , then moves into the actual process of setting up your business … from finding the right niche, creating a products, setting up your website to generate leads and subscribers , and finishes off with an overview of your entire system , including how to drive traffic to your offers .

Not bad for an overview of you ask me ! However, if you were to use this guide alone, you may have to fill in some of the blanks when you get down to some of the nitty-gritty of running a business online.

But of course, this section is clearly designed as an overview… so there’s no gripes here.

After going through this first section, you will have a clear idea of what the business entails, what you’re going to be doing (and why), how everything fits together and what you need to do before you even get started.

As far as introductions go, this is an impressive start to the course which sets you up nicely for what lies ahead.

Lesson #2 – Time Management Mastery: Take Control Of Your Time And Get Things Done

Advantages: in this section, you get to see how important time management really is.

Although it sounds boring, and many people would probably skip this section, Gabor makes time management easy and interesting … and shows you how important it really is if you want to make some money on the Internet.

Benefits: once you know how to control and manage your time, you’ll be amazed at how much you can get done. The better your time management skills, the more work you can do in less time, and with far less stress and hassle. Many people have numerous distractions and other commitments in life, including a full-time job to begin with.

If you don’t learn how to manage your time from the start, these distractions will carry you off and take this business opportunity away from you, piece by piece.

Lesson #3 – A Step by Step System To Finding A Profitable Niche

Advantages: Gabor uses this section to give you a clear roadmap to finding profitable niches to operate in. Although there can still be a hit and miss feel to this part of your business, there isn’t really a simpler way to target a profitable niche in the way Gabor shows you here.

Benefits: it doesn’t matter how much traffic you generate, how great your website looks, or how hard you work … if you don’t pick the right niche, then you’ll never make any money.

Even if you create great products, the truth is that money can only be made if the market is right. The harsh reality is that some markets have many keen buyers. Use this lesson to avoid that fatal mistake of picking a dud market and wasting your time.

Benefits: this is the core part of the whole process, and although you need a little bit of patience and practice, if you follow this lesson properly, there’s no reason why you can’t create a killer product that will sell in the bucket loads. Advantages: next, Gabor explains why and how to create the perfect USP. Again, this is another make or break aspect of product creation, and another step that many people miss out without knowing about it. If you’re a beginner, it might take a while to grasp this aspect, despite the information being laid out very simply, including sensible examples.

Benefits: without a USP, nobody has a reason to buy from you. It doesn’t matter how big or small your business is, or what it is you are selling … if you cannot differentiate yourself from other people selling similar information, then you’re screwed. Once you’ve finished with this section, you should have a firm grasp on creating your USP.

Lesson #8 – How To Create Irresistible Offers And Sell More Stuff Than You Ever Thought Possible

Advantages: this section expands on creating your product and USP, but focuses on creating value for your visitors. I have to say, this is another aspect of marketing which is overlooked with a lot of similar product creation training.

It’s not just what you sell, but the price you sell it for and what kind of bonuses you offer. This is another easy section to understand, even though you may have spend a bit more time and effort applying what you’ve learnt.

Benefits: the more value you can create in your visitor’s minds, the more likely they will buy from you, and buy from you at the price you tell them it’s worth. People love getting good value for money, and you can create irresistible offers by piling on the value.

Gabor shows you how to do this step-by-step, and with a little bit of patience and practice you should be able to create unbelievable value for your new products using his techniques.

Lesson #9 – The Most Vital Skill You Can Learn: Power Copywriting

Advantages: in this section, Gabor covers the crucial art of copywriting. He gives a nice overview along with some real-life examples that are working today. At times, it can feel a bit overwhelming if you are a total beginner … and don’t expect your first piece of copy to be a masterpiece.

However, if you can’t afford to pay a few thousand dollars for a copywriter then it’s well worth getting stuck in and mastering copywriting for good. The great thing is, if you follow the steps until now, then your product and offer should be strong enough to be able to sell themselves … without you having to pull out any fancy copywriting tricks.

Benefits: learning to write sales copy is a highly valuable skill, and can make or break your sales online. Although Gabor boils it down to a simple process, the reality is that it may take some time to grasp this part of the course if your total beginner or you haven’t been exposed to much sales copy in the past.

However, it’s well worth it because once you do learn how to write copy, you can save yourself thousands of would-be copywriters fees.

Lesson #10 – Building A Strong Foundation – Part I (HTML)

Advantages: this is a pretty straightforward section on creating a website in HTML. There’s nothing groundbreaking here, but there doesn’t really need to be. If you’re new to creating HTML webpages, this is a great place to start. Don’t get intimidated or worried about it, it’s really not as technical as you might think.

Benefits: Gabor’s training in this section is kept nice and simple like the rest of the course, but you may come across a few technical snags here and there when creating webpages. Although , it’s nothing a quick Google search can’t solve . Either way, it’s worth your time and effort learning, because sooner or later you will need to slap up quick web pages by yourself.

Lesson #11 – Building A Strong Foundation – Part II (Setting The Stage – Domain, Hosting, FTP)

Advantages: this section covers the nitty-gritty and often boring elements of setting up your website. Gabor walkes you through buying a domain name, hooking up your hosting and using FTP to get your website live on the Internet. Again, nothing groundbreaking here, but there’s only so much you can talk about when it comes to this stuff. Gabor covers it all nicely, without spinning your head with technical jargon.

Benefits: as boring and basic as these skills are, they are the essentials for running an online business. In the early stages, you can’t rely on a technical assistant to help you out with this stuff, so it’s crucial that you grasp it from day one. Being able to buy domain names, set up hosting, and FTP your files and websites whenever you need to in a hurry, is crucial for keeping your business alive and flowing.

Lesson #12 – Setting Up Your System – Part I (IAutomator.com)

Advantages: this section completely took me by surprise, as Gabor introduces you to one of the biggest components of the entire membership … IAutomator.

This is where you can manage your websites, subscriptions, products, download links, affiliate payments… and everything else that you need in your virtual “back office”. This system is based on a highly effective script created originally by John Delevara, a huge online marketer who focuses on his own software brands created for marketers.

In this section, Gabor walks you through setting up your “back office”, so that you can conveniently control everything in one central location. This element of the course is worth several hundred dollars alone, so it was a real surprise to find this inside along with Gabor’s training.

Benefits: having a central location to control all of your products, download links, affiliate accounts (and everything else in between) really does take the headache out of running an online business. Using this powerful script, you can keep a tight ship on all of your tools, links, promo material and everything else you need to run a profitable business on the Internet.

Instead of shuffling around between files and folders on your hard drive, you have one simple location to store all of your material. If you were to buy this kind of script separately, you can expect to pay at least $500.

Lesson #13 – Setting Up Your System – Part II (Creating A Killer Squeeze Page)

Advantages: this is another simple section which shows you the next critical element of the entire process … setting up your squeeze page. Gabor provides you with screenshots and diagrams to show you how to set up your squeeze Page, and how your squeeze page fits into your overall business. The level of detail is more than adequate allowing you to follow along and create your squeeze page within 30 minutes or so.

Benefits: squeeze pages are crucial for building an e-mail list. Once you have an e-mail list, you can market products over and over to your list … which is ideal considering that most people don’t buy on first impressions. You can also upsell future products and approach other website owners and product owners with confidence (when you have a list, you have what they want!).

There are a lot of courses which overcomplicate creating your squeeze pages, but Gabor does an excellent job of simplifying it into a few simple steps.

In fact, he shows you why simplicity is the key to an effective squeeze page … which is great news for us!

Lesson #14 – Setting Up Your System – Part III (Your Money-Makers)

Advantages: in this section, Gabor introduces one-time offers (OTOs), along with downsells.

He also explains the importance of integrating these into your system, and why these offers are where your real money is made.

The main focus of this section is to show you how to create the pages and the sales copy for them, along with a suitable offer. This training is very concise, and clearly written by professional copywriter. The only thing that may catch some people out, is trying to figure out what to upsell or downsell for these types of offers.

Benefits: it’s not enough just having a single product to sell up front, because when you start paying for advertising or paying affiliates a large percentage of each sale, you will end up making very little money. That’s why people include one-time offers on the backend, so that they can make extra commissions on top.

The key is being able to write good sales copy and present a good offer, and Gabor gives you that information in this section very clearly, keeping it brief and to the point.

Lesson #15 – Setting Up Your System – Part IV (Login Offer + Members Area + Helpdesk)

Advantages: this is an interesting section which shows you how to create a members area for your customers to log in to. A minimal amount of technical work is required here, especially when using the provided scripts.

What’s also interesting about this section, is where Gabor explains how to insert a “Login Offer”, which is something I would have never thought of myself. Gabor also shows you how to create a helpdesk with minimal fuss.

Benefits: this part the course is a lot more important than it would seem … because if your customers don’t have anywhere to access your products, or get help, then you would be in serious hot water!

Furthermore, with the provided scripts and training, creating your login pages and members area is a breeze.

This kind of thing usually takes a few days to set up, or a couple of hundred dollars to get some technical guy to do it for you, so this is another welcome addition to the course … which saves you a lot of time and money.

Lesson #16 – Setting Up Your System – Part IV (Preparing For Scaling)

Advantages: in this section, Gabor prepares you to take your business to the next level …by recruiting affiliates.

Many people overlook this aspect of being a product owner, because they are put off by setting up the affiliate program and wouldn’t know where to start with finding affiliates. Gabor starts off by explaining the advantages of setting up an affiliate program, which should be obvious to most people.

However, he quickly goes on to lesser-known aspects such as how to understand what affiliates want and how to set up your program so that it automatically draws in affiliates in for you.

He actually gives you 11 x specific things that you need in order to have a killer affiliate program. Some of them are common sense, but others are insights that only a successful product owner would know about … so I learned a lot from this section alone.

There is also a ton of deeper information on recruiting and keeping affiliates, along with specific technical aspects of setting up your affiliate program quickly and easily. This really is all you need when it comes to setting up your affiliate program, and making it a success.

Benefits: Sure, it will take time and a bit of patience to build up an army of affiliates promoting your product for you, but you have to keep in mind the end result… which is dozens of sales per day without you having to lift a finger.

There’s no risk on your part, because your affiliates will do all of the advertising and hard work to generate the traffic and sales for you, and don’t forget… you make more money on the backend with your one-time offers (which were covered in the previous sections).

My suggestion is run with one method until you are really good at it, and then move on to another one … otherwise you could become overwhelmed. I also like the fact that there is a good mix of free traffic methods and paid methods too.

Benefits: as you are probably aware, you can’t make money if you don’t have buyers coming to your site. Traffic really is the lifeblood of any business, because it doesn’t matter how much effort you put into creating a good product or website … if you can’t get traffic then you’ll remain broke.

He begins by outlining 4 different types of product launch so that you can pick one that is suitable for your current situation. He then goes on to explain how to create anticipation, excitement, curiosity, and a whole range of other emotions to get people foaming at the mouth over your products during the launch period.

He also explains the four-part sequence which makes up any type of product launch, and what you need to be doing at each step of the way.

To help you along, he also shows you how to attract JV partners to sell your stuff for you during the launch, which is essential for making a big splash (and lots of money!).

Admittedly, this can feel quite daunting … but you need to get over that, and follow Gabor’s advice. This is mostly related to the way blogs interact with search engines and the traffic I am speaking of will come from search engines, mostly Google.

Before I explain how you can do this to help your website, let me first give some background on how search engines work, Google in particular.

When it comes to optimizing your website (or blog for that matter) for search engines you must always keep in mind two things: on-page optimization and off-page optimization.

On-page optimization is the elements of a Web page that better optimizes it to be found and ranked well in the search engines. These elements can include on-page content such as the actual sentences and paragraphs on the page, the headlines (or headers or Hx tags), the links, the links’ text, the title tag and much more.

Off-page optimization means the things that are done on sites besides your own, namely link-building. Off-page optimization is the process of creating links (or causing others to create links) on other websites that point to your site. Inbound links as these are often called have a major impact on how well you rank in search engines. Generally speaking, the more inbound links, the better. But the quality of the sites with these inbound links, or the way the search engines perceive the sites, is even more important.

To rank on the first couple of pages on the search engines requires work on both on-page and off-page optimization.

Two additional and important pieces of information that you’ll need to understand are related to site content and internal links.

Search engines also very much love new, original and quality content, and they like to see your website regularly adding this kind of new content. You don’t need to add pages every day, just add pages at the same rate over time. So if you add a page a week to your site, keep it at around that same pace, or increase or decrease gradually.

A website can be considered a living entity in a sense. It certainly shouldn’t be static. It should grow over time. And the fantastic thing about content is that the more of it there is on your site, the more chances you have getting found in the search engines.

The idea that inbound links help your search engine rankings that I explained above can be extended to your own internal pages as well. In other words, the more links to a particular page coming from other pages within the same site will boost that page’s rank as well.

Think of it this way. If you had a ten-page site, including a product page and every page on the site contained a link to your product page. If all other things were equal, your product page would rank higher than the rest of your site’s pages (besides the home page which is given a little extra weight).

Now let’s consider what would happen if there were only you and your competitor in your industry (only if that could be true!) and your site still had those ten pages while your competitor’s site contained one hundred pages. Furthermore, your competitor set it up the same way as you where he added a link to every page on his site that pointed to his product page. If all other things were equal his product page would outrank your product page every time. Why? Because he had 100 internal links pointing to his product page and you only had 10.

If you put all these pieces together now, on-page optimization, off-page optimization or link building, content creation and internal linking, can you begin to see why a blog may be a good thing? A blog helps with all of these.

A blog that is regularly updated is providing a mechanism for adding fresh content on a regular basis. Plus, it’s so easy to use a blog that anyone can use them, so even if you or your employees don’t know a thing about Web pages and HTML, you’ll still be able to add new content to your site.

Consider this. If you add fresh, quality content to your blog on a regular basis by writing posts, something the search engines love, and within each post you link to an important page within your site, let’s say your product page for instance, you’re now building links to help your rankings using your blog. With this additional link your product page gets that much more boost in the search engines.

Remember how I explained that links from within your own site help your rankings? Adding links within your blog posts pointing back to your other important pages of yours that you want to rank well is a great way to help your rankings.

And every time you publish a new post, you’re giving the search engines one more entry point into your site. Your site will quickly get bigger, and with each new page your site gets more visible.

Keep in mind that the links you make within your blog posts should be relevant. Only link to your product page from a post that has to do with your products. And also, blog posts ought to be useful to your site visitors. The less you talk about your products and instead offer useful, free information that people can use, the more traffic and repeat visitors you’ll get.

Remember that people really don’t care about you, your website or your products, they only care about how you can help them. If you sell furniture, a blog post about how to find the best deals on furniture would be far better than a post about how your chairs are the best in the world.

One important thing to remember is that if you plan on creating a new blog for your business as a way to augment your website be sure you put the blog on your actual domain. This means that you would not use a remote service like Blogger.com. Instead, you must have the blog on your business website’s address (or domain). For example, if your website address is http://www.yoursite.com/ then your blog should be located at http://www.yoursite.com/blog or http://blog.yoursite.com/

By adding a blog to your business website you are creating a way to get more traffic. You’ll get direct traffic from your posts, which get indexed by the search engines and drive traffic to your site from searches. And you’ll get indirect traffic from your other site’s pages ranking well in the search engines because they have links pointing to them from your blog posts.

You’ll be regularly adding fresh content to your site, which search engines love, thereby creating more ways to be found in the search engines at the same time. And each post provides a new opportunity to create a link or two to other pages and blog posts on your site, thereby boosting those pages’ rankings.

Like I suggested at the beginning, if your business website doesn’t have a blog, go get one.

Same as it Ever Was

At its core, online marketing follows the same principles as any other means of marketing – a provider has a product or service they wish to sell, so they advertise in order to draw potential customers’ attention to the information they’ve put together. Just like television commercials, online marketing has to be creative and informative to truly catch the attention of the discerning customer. We’ve all heard of popup and banner ads that do nothing but hog resources and annoy potential customers rather than attract them to the product, and that result is hardly healthy for any business.

And Now for Something Completely Different

One method that sidesteps the click-away tendency is the use of a blog to market the product. Blog is a shorthand term for web log, and refers to a serial, online journal or record intended for regular viewing. Examples of blogs include noncommercial ventures such as personal diaries posted to Livejournal, the daily record of campaign events for the more tech-savvy politicians, and ‘hobby’ blogs that cover an activity such as cooking or model airplanes. However, they can also include outright commercial ventures, such as a blog intended to promote a new product, consisting solely of video posts explaining the various advantages to the new product.

It’s Easier Than Herding Cats

Some blogs strike a balance between these two extremes. Consider the highly successful LoLCats website. This site began solely as a hobby, posting humorous images of cats. However, due to effective word of mouth promotion among people with similar interests, the site grew quickly, spinning off additional sites and generating an extraordinary amount of advertising revenue. The site has grown so much that Time magazine reported the company was purchased for two million dollars in 2007.

Now, this result is obviously not the norm. For every cheezburger success story, there are thousands of blogs that toil on in obscurity, accomplishing nothing at all. The differences can be many, but they can be boiled down to concerns relating to effective marketing.

Give it the Old College Try

Let’s say that a user named Ron has a passion for low budget college cooking, and wishes to make money writing about it. Ron starts a small blog, using the popular WordPress blogging system, and begins posting two or three times a day. He posts recipes, money saving ideas, and ‘bet you didn’t know’ material, building a decent sized archive. To get an audience, Ron begins visiting and participating in cooking and college related forums, mentioning his blog and its goals to his audience, gathering new users with patient, active efforts.

Eventually, Ron takes two steps toward commercial success when he monetizes the blog through an advertising revenue program (such as Google’s AdSense), and by using the blog to promote his new eBook, “Collegiate Cuisine”. To hook readers, he promises not only recipes he’s already included on the site, but special tips on inexpensive ways to get cooking tools and a few new recipes he hasn’t shared yet.

Will this model work? Perhaps. If Ron is too pushy, he might turn people off to his product before they ever come to his site. If he’s too timid, his message will get lost in the tide of the Internet. If he chooses poorly in the ads he allows on his site, users won’t click and the ads will generate no money. So the second key is research and careful attention. Ron and other blogging marketers have to study the market, pay attention to peoples’ needs and input, and adjust their presentation accordingly.

But is There Any Money in it?

To return to the point that there is money to be made in blogging, one would be remiss not to pay attention to the successful Problogger. In the classic ‘make money teaching others to make money,’ tradition, this is a blog that makes its revenue by teaching users how to make money through professional blogging. Many other sites, such as FreelanceWritingGigs, swear to Problogger’s integrity and efficacy and the site does provide a great deal of information. So there clearly IS money to be made in the blogging-as-marketing world.

Back to the Basics

The key to blog marketing is the same key to any business venture, appropriateness. The savvy businessman will evaluate their entire business, and do the research to determine if blogging is a vital addition to what they’re trying to accomplish. Blogging allows for a wider audience than local advertising, which could lead to expanding into nearby cities, or shipping to distant locales. It is an option that should seriously be examined, and approached with the same degree of research and caution as any business venture or proposal.
